BIO

Dr. Sauer is the Program Director and an Associate Professor in the Clinical Psychology Program at Midwestern University. She is responsible for the operation and oversight of the Clinical Psychology Program and teaches courses in Introductory and Advanced Ethics. She is also involved in interdisciplinary education, providing lectures on ethics, psychology, eating disorders, self injury, trauma, and men's and women's health to other programs within the University.

Prior to her academic career, Dr. Sauer practiced as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in multiple clinical settings for over 25 years, doing psychotherapy and psychological assessment with adolescents and adults. She specialized in the treatment of eating disorders, self-injury, trauma and abuse, and women's health issues including postpartum depression, miscarriage, infertility, menopause, and gynecological cancers. She directed two eating disorders programs at local hospitals.

Dr. Sauer became board certified in Clinical Psychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) in November 2012, and has been involved as a mentor and examiner for other ABPP candidates. She is involved in a number of professional organizations at the state and national level. She has been a member of the American Psychological Association (APA) throughout her career and is a member of Divisions 12 (Clinical Psychology), 17 (Counseling Psychology), and 38 (Health Psychology). She is also an active member of the Illinois Psychological Association (IPA), having served on the IPA Council of Representatives as a founding member and Chair of the Women's Issues Section and more recently as a member of the IPA Ethics Committee. In that role, she provides consultation and continuing education on topics related to ethics for psychologists throughout Illinois. She is also a site visitor for the APA Commission on Accreditation and a delegate to the National Council of Schools of Professional Psychology.
