RESEARCH INTERESTS

The Stephenson Lab takes an integrative approach to studying genetic and environmental regulation of metabolism. We are interested in understanding mechanisms of metabolite-driven interorgan crosstalk and use a series of diet and exercise paradigms in preclinical models to facilitate our research. Current research themes include: 1). Molecular control of early metabolic changes in response to a reduction in physical activity, 2). Sex differences in the regulation of metabolism, 3). Efficacy of mitochondrial transplantation for restoring metabolic and physcial function, and 4). Modulation of hormonal stress responses in response to exercise and physical inactivity and associated effects on the metabolic function of peripheral tissues and overall energy balance regulation.
