Sinju Sundaresan, Ph.D.
Associate Professor
Physiology
BIO
Dr. Sundaresan received her Ph.D. in Nutrition (with Minor in Molecular Biology) at Texas Woman's University. She earned her Postdoctoral training in studies investigating role of enteroendocrine cells and fatty acid receptors in intestinal nutrient sensing, and the impact of obesity on enteroendocrine biology and function at Washington University in St Louis, Department of Medicine. She then moved to University of Michigan Medical School for additional Post-Doctoral training in cellular signaling mechanisms underlying development of neuroendocrine tumors and carcinoids using transgenic mouse models. She studied nutrient-induced signaling from the intestine to the brain via gastrointestinal vagal afferents at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she was promoted to Research Assistant Professor in 2018. She joined Midwestern University in 2020 and her research focuses on mechanisms underlying alterations in enteroendocrine function, and intestinal stem cell turnover during obesity and aging.
