Isabel Martinez-Pena y Valenzuela, Ph.D.

My research focuses on identifying cellular and molecular mechanisms that regulate the breakdown of synaptic compartments of peripheral synapses across a range of different neurodegenerative disorders, as well as the structure and function of neuromuscular junctions in health and disease. Members of our lab routinely combine quantitative imaging (e.g. epifluorescence and confocal microscopy), molecular biology, and histological techniques. Our research would provide learning opportunities for graduate students, and at the same time, they open many venues for intra- and inter-institutional collaborations.
