Edward Wickstead, Ph.D.

I am an Assistant Professor of Pharmacology at Midwestern University's Glendale campus. I earned my BS.c. in Biomedical Sciences (with Honors) from King's College London in 2014, which included an international year at the National University of Singapore. In 2015, I began my doctoral studies in the lab of Dr. Simon McArthur, now a senior lecturer in Clinical Neuroscience and Pharmacology at Queen Mary, University of London. I successfully obtained my Ph.D. from The University of Westminster and Queen Mary, University of London, in 2019. 

I completed my postdoctoral training in two leading neuroscience labs. From 2019 to 2022, I trained in the lab of Dr. Martha Bhattacharya at the University of Arizona, investigating the potential link between the novel receptor TMEM184b and neurological dysfunction, with implications for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). I then joined the lab of Dr. Zhenyu Yue at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (2022–2024), where I utilized human iPSC-derived neurons and animal models to identify novel LC3-interacting proteins and explore connections between autophagy dysfunction and sleep disruption. 

I am currently a Review Editor for Frontiers in Cellular Neuroscience and regularly peer-review for many high impact international journals, including Neurology, the Journal of Neuroinflammation, Immunopharmacology, and Cell and Molecular Neurobiology.

I have previously served as a mentor for students in the St. George's Society of New York (SGSNY) Scholarship Program, which supports immigrant and first-generation students of British or Commonwealth heritage studying at City University of New York (CUNY) institutions.
