Savannah Sanchez, Ph.D.

Savannah E. Sanchez, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Midwestern University. She received her B.S. in Microbiology from the University of California, San Diego, her M.S. in Microbiology from San Diego State University, and her Ph.D. in Molecular Biosciences from Washington State University. During her postdoctoral training at Virginia Commonwealth University, Dr. Sanchez expanded her expertise in intracellular bacterial pathogens and established an independent research program focused on pathogen metabolism, nutrient acquisition, and intracellular ecology. Her research has been supported by competitive funding mechanisms throughout her career and has contributed to our understanding of how intracellular bacterial pathogens interact with host cells to promote survival, replication, and disease progression. In addition to leading her research program, Dr. Sanchez is dedicated to teaching and mentoring students across graduate and professional programs, helping to train the next generation of scientists and healthcare professionals.
