TEACHING INTERESTS
Dr. Kaufman’s teaching focuses on the integration of neuroanatomy, physiology, and clinical application, with the goal of helping medical and health professions students develop a functional understanding of the nervous system. He teaches across multiple programs, including osteopathic medicine, podiatric medicine, dental medicine, and optometry. His courses emphasize the relationship between structure and function, using systems-based organization to connect anatomical pathways with their behavioral and clinical consequences.
A central feature of his approach is the use of clinical correlations to reinforce core concepts and to highlight how disruptions in specific neural circuits produce characteristic patterns of deficits. Rather than emphasizing memorization, his teaching prioritizes mechanistic understanding, enabling students to reason through unfamiliar clinical scenarios.
