BIO
Dr. Patrice Ayala ( she/her): is an Assistant Professor within the DPT program at Midwestern University. She earned a bachelors degree in Exercise Science and Biology from Gonzaga University in Spokane , Washington in 1998, a Masters in Physical Therapy from the Medical College of Pennsylvania Hahnemann in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 2001, and then a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from A.T. Still University in Mesa, Arizona in 2009. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Education with an emphasis on Educational Technology and Online Learning. Her career has involved care across all settings with an emphasis on sub acute care, administration with staff education and internal documentation audits, and home health. She presently works in the acute care setting at a local hospital system and orthopedic out patient centers in Scottsdale. She earned a board certification as a Geriatric Clinical Specialist in 2017 and serves on the Specialization Academy of Content Experts for the Geriatric Specialty area writing exam questions. She is a Certified Exercise Expert for Aging Adults (CEEAA) through the Academy of Geriatrics and is an Arizona State co-advocate for Academy. She serves on a National Senior Games Association task force through the APTA to study functional outcome measures with Senior Athletes.
In the DPT program , she is the assistant Director of Clinical Education, the faculty advisor for the Student Government Association (SGA), Geriatric Special Interest Group, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Special Interest Group , and Justa Center Student run clinic in downtown Phoenix for unsheltered adults age 55 and older as part of MWU H.O.M.E. program.
