RESEARCH INTERESTS

Aging is a progressive degenerative process in which organs lose functionality and/or structural integrity, leading to disease and increased risk of morbidity and mortality. While the etiology of the aging process is not fully understood, inflammation is suggested to play a major role in aging and age-related diseases. We are studying the cellular and molecular pathways that regulate cellular senescence and organismal aging using cultured cells and mouse models. We are particularly interested in cyclooxygenase-2 (COX2), a key enzyme in prostanoid biosynthesis, and its downstream signaling. Other work in the lab is focused on the mechanism of cancer-induced muscle wasting (cachexia).
