My responsibility as an educator is to develop students capacity to reason from biological mechanism to clinical consequence and justify the decisions that follow. As a basic scientist teaching virology and infectious diseases in general, I connect molecular mechanisms of pathogenesis with clinical signs, symptoms, complications, and the biological rationale for therapeutic strategies. I extend this framework to epidemiology, vaccination, immunity, and zoonotic disease, linking individual illness with transmission and population health. My teaching combines rigorous expectations with clear explanations, purposeful discussion, and constructive feedback. I challenge students to explain their reasoning, distinguish among plausible causes of disease, evaluate evidence, and revise conclusions when warranted. Their questions hold me to the same standard of clarity and intellectual discipline. My aim is to prepare future healthcare professionals with the scientific foundation to support differential diagnosis, interpret epidemiological patterns, and make informed decisions about treatment and prevention because understanding how disease develops is essential to recognizing its consequences and protecting the individuals and communities it affects.
