TEACHING INTERESTS

As a lifelong learner, Dr. Royeen values multimodal teaching and learning approaches that engage the visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic domains. She integrates these modalities into her teaching practice by presenting material through varied methods—lectures, hands-on demonstrations, discussions, and small-group activities—to promote the generalization and application of knowledge.

Dr. Royeen’s background as an occupational therapist deeply informs her approach to teaching. Occupational therapy emphasizes observation, adaptation, and the creation of the “just right challenge”—meeting individuals where they are and supporting them to achieve the next level of growth. In the classroom, she applies this principle by continuously assessing student needs, observing both verbal and nonverbal cues, and adapting instruction to foster an optimal learning environment.

Her goal as an educator is to create learning experiences that appropriately challenge students without overwhelming them, encouraging intellectual curiosity, self-efficacy, and professional accountability. Dr. Royeen believes that when students take ownership of their learning, they not only gain knowledge but also develop the critical thinking and adaptive skills necessary for lifelong success in their professional and personal endeavors.
